  28. WINOS2 INSTALLATION AND MIGRATION TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE

  31. Problem: Either Full Screen or Seamless WINOS2 fails to                         
  32.          start.  Normally a Fatal Error 0x0401 appears very                     
  33.          quickly.  Typing WINOS2 from a full screen DOS                         
  34.          session can verify this problem.                                       
  35. .                                                                               
  36. Answer:  This problem is caused by one or more of the                           
  37.          drivers,sys or font files listed in the Windows                        
  38.          SYSTEM.INI or WIN.INI file not loading correctly.                      
  39.          This could happen if one of these files is not                         
  40.          present, or if the driver does not fully load when                     
  41.          Windows starts up.  To correct this problem, the                       
  42.          user can try reinstalling WINOS2 by doing a                            
  43.          selective install of OS2.  Another more time                           
  44.          consuming solution is to copy the SYSTEM.INI file                      
  45.          in the WINOS2 directory to a printer and verify                        
  46.          that each of the drivers or system files actually                      
  47.          exists.  This error also occurs on systems with XGA                    
  48.          or 8514 video boards and monitors when trying to                       
  49.          use large fonts.  Use small fonts instead.  Modify                     
  50.          the lines in SYSTEM.INI to:

  56. Problem: Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 3.1 Applications                     
  57.          do not work.

  59. Answer:  Microsoft Windows 3.1 and any Windows 3.1                              
  60.          applications that will only run with Windows                           
  61.          Version 3.1, cannot run under OS/2 2.0 WINOS2 3.0                      
  62.          compatibility mode.  Windows 3.10 specific                             
  63.          applications do not run either under a OS/2 2.0                        
  64.          Dos Session or a OS/2-2.0 VMB(Booted Dos Session).                     
  65.          Windows Version 3.1 may be available under a                           
  66.          future version of OS/2-2.0, but the release date                       
  67.          of this is unknown at this time.  If you installed                     
  68.          OS/2-2.0 using dual boot, Microsoft Windows 3.1                        
  69.          will still run under native DOS.

  71. Problem: ATM (Adobe Type Manager) fonts not available using                     
  72.          Windows Applications.

  74. Answer:  Using a Full Screen WINOS2 session, select the ATM                     
  75.          ICON in the OS2/Main Folder of the Program Manager                     
  76.          and install ATM fonts.  The 17 standard ATM fonts                      
  77.          are on Printer Driver Disk #5.

  79. Problem: Windows applications cannot be run seamlessly from                     
  80.          the desktop.

  82. Answer:  Migrate Windows applications using the Migrate                         
  83.          Utility in the System Set-up Folder.  From the OS/2                    
  84.          desktop select the OS/2-2.0 System Icon, System                        
  85.          Set-up folder, then Migrate Applications.                              
  86. Problem: Windows applications started from user-created OS2                     
  87.          2.0 program objects do not have the correct DOS                        
  88.          Settings.

  90. Answer:  If you migrated your Windows applications, DOS                         
  91.          Settings are automatically set for you using the                       
  92.          list of applications in the                                            
  93.           OS2 INSTALL DATABASE.TXT file.  If you created                        
  94.          your own program object for a Windows or DOS                           
  95.          application, your DOS Settings may be incorrect.                       
  96.          Look through the DATABASE text file for your                           
  97.          application and required DOS Settings.  If your DOS                    
  98.          Settings for the application are correct, see the                      
  99.          next item.
